Hernando Cortes(1485-1547), also known as, Hernan Cotes was a Spanish explorer who was famous for conquering the Aztec Empire. He also claimed Mexico for Spain. His expedition was cancelled but he ignored and continued with his journey. He set sail with around 500 men and 11 ships to Mexico. Some of the people he met, he befriended, while others were murdered. When he heard that Spanish troops were coming after him for disobeying, he fled the Aztec capital. When he returned there was a battle already going on. The Spanish were driven out, but soon returned to conquer the city. After conquering the Aztecs, his career died down and participated in unimportant voyages.
